  It was the 1930’s and people all over America were feeling the pinch of the Great Depression. For many, going to the horse races was one of few means of escape that they had. For a little while at least they could stop thinking about their worries and enjoy the races. Many of the horses were very fast indeed, and one was really slow. His name was Seabiscuit and he was an unhappy lonely animal who did not like to race and who lost almost every race he was in. Luckily for Seabiscuit, there were some people who believed in him. There was his owner, his jockey, and his trainer. His trainer found ways to gain Seabiscuit’s trust and in time, Seabiscuit proved that even the “underdog” horse on the track was capable of great things.

  This delightful picture book about the “little horse with the heart of a lion” tells the story of the great Seabiscuit in a way that will resonate with little children. Amusing acrylic paintings perfectly compliment the text, and readers will see how a little horse was able to put hope into the hearts of thousands of people.
