Jane Hissey was born in Norwich in 1952 and studied Design and Illustration at Brighton. She taught art at a sixth form college until the birth of her first child when she began to concentrate on her own drawing. Beginning by producing illustration of people's teddy bears, she moved into greeting card design. A children's book publisher spotted the series of cards and encouraged Hissey to write and illustrate a children's book. Her first book Old Bear was published in 1988 and other books with the same nursery characters followed. Hissey's illustrations are drawn from real life and feature her own toys, some of which she played with as a child. Now published all over the world her books have received universal praise. Currently, she lives in East Sussex with her husband and three children.
