William Durbin

  William Durbin is an award-winning author and former teacher who has lived in the canoe country of Northeastern Minnesota for the past thirty years. He has taught every level from fourth grade to college, and he continues to be fascinated by the many ways in which writing can help people grow and learn. He is willing to present to assembly-sized groups or to conduct smaller writing workshops, and he can structure his remarks to fit any area of the language arts curriculum.

  In addition to his three My Name Is America books, Mr. Durbin has written The Broken Blade (winner of the 1998 Minnesota Book Award and the Great Lake Booksellers Award): Song of Sampo Lake, a north woods homestead story; Blackwater Ben, a tale of a lumberjack camp; and The Darkest Evening (winner of the 2005 Minnesota Book Award). His most recent novel, EL Lector, was named to the ALA's Amelia Bloomer list and was an America's Award finalist.
