This had not been a good year for Little Bear’s father. He had lost his job and money was so tight that there was only just enough money for food. There wasn’t even enough money for Christmas gifts. The Bear family would just have to do without gifts this year.

Still they tried to make Christmas as special as they could. Mother Bear made some decorations, Father Bear went and found some tree branches to make a Christmas tree, and Mother Bear cooked a fish that Father Bear had caught. The family tried not to think too much a gift-less Christmas morning.

When they came downstairs on Christmas morning they were astonished to find five gifts under the Christmas tree. Somehow someone had thought of them this Christmas after all? Had Santa come to call or was their secret benefactor a little closer to home?

In this very distinctive and heartwarming Christmas tale, one little bear manages to make what would be an otherwise grim Christmas day special for his family. All it takes is a little creativity and lots of love to bring Christmas into his home.

This picture book with its simple artwork, its minimal text, and its undemanding story offers readers an important reminder that Christmas is not about material things. Instead it is about the love that one shares with others; the story therefore truly captures the essence of the Christmas spirit.
