Richard Scarry's Busiest Fire Fighters Ever!
Richard Scarry
Picture Book (Series)
Ages 4 to 6
Random House, 1995, 0-307-16054-8
Sparky, Smokey, Snozzle and Squirty are really quite the best sort of fire fighters one would want in ones town and in Busytown they have to keep on their toes for there are lots of problems to solve. Not only do they put out fires but they also retrieve lost keys, get little pigs out of trees, rescue cars that have been squashed by tree branches, and much more. Of course they are always at the ready and when they are called to put out a fire they are the picture of efficiency - most of the time.
Best of all these four fire fighters have big hearts and when things go wrong for others they do their best to put things right.
There can be no doubt that the characters of Busytown are wonderfully funny and always a pleasure to meet again. This particular quartet of pigs will give readers many laughs and help youngsters realize that heroes are not just the people who do the big things, they are also the people who make life easier for others in small ways, and who take the time to be kind and helpful.
