Maisy’s Wonderful Weather Book
Lucy Cousins
Board/Novelty Book (Series)
Ages 4 to 6
Candlewick Press, 2006, 0-7636-2987-1
Maisy is up and out of bed and the little mouse is eager to see what kind of day it is outside. Let’s help her draw her curtains and we shall see whether it is sunny, snowy, rainy, windy, stormy, or if there is a rainbow coloring the sky.
For each kind of day we see how Maisy dresses for what awaits her outdoors and what she does with herself. On a sunny hot day Maisy goes to the beach and by pulling a tab we help her go into a cabana and get changed into her swim suit. On a rainy day Maisy goes out in her raincoat, boots, and carrying an umbrella and she has a wonderful time jumping in the puddles.
In this large format board book little hands will find lots of flaps to lift, tabs to pull and dials to turn. Simple rhymes and carefully selected words conjure up images of days spent on the beach, in the snow, on a fall day and more. On a bar at the side of each spread the author has drawn pictures of a number of items that appear on the page, each picture having its name written beneath for the benefit of young readers who are flexing their reading muscles. For the snowy day, for example, there are labeled pictures of snow, a warm hat, some mittens, and a hot drink.
Maisy fans will greatly enjoy exploring different kinds of weather in this colorful and educational book.
