The fast train to Pebblecombe has broken down and the Little Red Train is needed to take its place. Duffy Driver soon learns that the need is very great for there is a fair in Pebblecombe today and a lot of people are going to want to get there in time for the opening. Indeed when he arrives at the station many passengers ask “will the Little Red Train get there on time” for they don’t want to miss the fair. Duffy always replies “We’ll go as fast as we can” and he has to say this many times as people get on the train at the different stops, all anxious about getting to the fair. Often the people are irritated and not very agreeable but Duffy is always pleasant and he and the Little Red Train do their very best to get to Pebblecombe as fast as they can.
Benedict Blathwayt’s wonderfully detailed illustrations add much visual interest to this simple but very engaging little story.
This is one of the “Adventures of the Little Red Train” books.
