Away laughing on a fast camel

Louise Rennison

Fiction (Series)

Ages 14 and up

HarperCollins, 2004, 0060589361

Georgia Nicolson is in mourning. Her boyfriend, the Sex God, has left England and he is now living in Kiwi-a-gogo land - New Zealand. To make matters worse, he is not pining for Georgia at all. In fact, it sounds as if he is having a grand time. How can boys be so cruel?

Georgia decides that the only thing to do is to shun boys altogether. She will resign herself to a life of dull and lonely er…all aloneness. Unfortunately, this turns out to be harder to do than Georgia imagined. First of all, Dave the Laugh keeps snogging her, and then, to top it off, the boy who replaces the Sex God in the Stiff Dylans, a music band, is a gorgeous half-Italian boy. His name is Masimo, and just the sight of him makes Georgia feel weak at the knees.

Determined to impress Macimo with her maturiosty, Georgia consults Dave the Laugh. Dave gives her the boy’s perspective, and she finds that he is a great “mate.” Of course Dave confuses the whole “mate” thing by kissing Georgia in a decidedly unfriendlike manner. Boys are very strange.

In this new installment of the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, Louise Rennison once again tickles her readers’s funny bones with her delightful narrative. Written from Georgia’s point of view, the story perfectly captures Georgia’s preoccupation with boys, love, snogging, and her appearance. Anyone who tries to listen to this story in public will be stared at a great deal because they will be prone to snorts of laughter and uncontrollable giggling.
