  Autumn is the time of year when we are most likely to notice the leaves on the trees. In the spring and summer they are up above our heads in shades of green, seemingly so alike in their greenness, but in the autumn they fall to the ground and we can see how very different, and often lovely, they are.
  Using his superb photographs to illustrate his points the author of this excellent book shows us that there are many different kinds of leaves, and trees, to be found in our yards, parks and woods. We can see how many varieties of shape and textures there are in the tree world. In addition to the general discussion about leaves the author tells us a little bit about some of the more commonly found trees, describing points of interest to do with their natural history, shape, form, and colour. At the end of the book the author explains why it is that trees lose their leaves in the fall and in the telling turns the commonplace into a wonderful story which will fascinate children.
