Annie and Snowball and the teacup club

Illustrated by Sucie Stevenson

Fiction (Series)

Ages 5 to 7

Simon and Schuster, 2008, 1-4169-0940-0

Annie loves things that are “dainty,” pretty, flowery, and girlish. She loves frills, the color pink, and pretty teacups. Though she loves her cousin Henry very much, there is nothing about Henry that is “dainty.” He just isn’t interested in teacups and similar ladylike pursuits. There is one thing that he is interested in though – seeing his cousin happy.

Henry suggests that Annie should try to find some other girls who like teacups and tea parties. Annie thinks that this is a delightful idea, and with the help of her loving father, she sets about finding a new set of friends.

In this warm beginner reader title, Cynthia Rylant - who has brought us so many wonderful characters - encourages her readers to find people who share the same interests as they do. The language used in the story is perfectly suited for children who are ready to read on their own, and at the same time, the story is engaging and entertaining.
