Zelda and Ivy: Keeping Secrets

  One day Zelda tells Eugene, the boy next door, a secret. She makes him “woozy-weasel” promise that he won’t tell Ivy, Zelda’s sister, the secret. Zelda says that Ivy cannot keep a secret at all. She then tells Eugene that his mother is the tooth fairy.

  Later that day, Ivy and Eugene are playing together and they discover that Zelda told both of them a secret. She made them both “woozy-weasel” promise that they wouldn’t tell anyone. Eugene suggests that Zelda told them the same secret, and sure enough, when Ivy and Eugene share the secret (at the same time) it is the same secret. Now both Eugene and Ivy have a secret to share – not to tell Zelda that they both told!

  This trio of little stories is sure delight young readers who are eager to read ‘real’ books on their own. The stories are engaging and humorous. At the same time, the stories challenge young readers to learn new words, and they get to explore language that is more advanced than they might be used to.
