  Winter is the time of year when the days are short and the temperatures are cold. Often snow falls and because it is cold many plants die or go to sleep. In the spring the sleeping plants will wake up and begin to grow once more. Animals too have to prepare for the lower temperatures. Some migrate to a warmer place. Others sleep for the winter months or they grow thick fur and save up food to get them through until spring arrives once more.
  For humans winter is a time for holidays. There is Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza and thought these holidays are very different they do have one thing in common – they are a time when families come together to celebrate. Children especially love winter for at this time of year, and if there is snow on the ground, they can build snowmen, make snowballs, and go sledding.
  In this wonderful introduction to winter young readers will learn all about what they can expect in this season. The pages are full of annotated photographs and at the back of the book children will learn how they can feed birds in the wintertime.
