Who likes the rain?

Etta Kaner

Illustrated by Marie Lafrance

Non-Fiction Picture/Novelty Book (Series)

Ages 4 to 6

Kids Can Press, 2007, 1-55337-841-5

Have you ever wondered why it rains? If you have ever asked yourself this question then this is definitely the book for you. You will find out that rain falls because water droplets collect in the clouds. When the temperature falls the droplets stick together to form bigger droplets. These then get so big that they are “too heavy to stay up in the air” and rain begins to fall.

This is only one of a series of interesting questions that are answered in these pages. The author wonders, among other things, “where puddles come from,” “why it thunders”, and “why plants need water.” Some of the questions are directly related to rain while others are more related to the things that we notice taking place before, during, and after a rainstorm.

For each double page spread the author leads her reader into the question and then, on a fold out page, she answers the question using words and pictures.

This is one of the titles in the Exploring the Elements series. Other books in this collection include “Who likes the sun?” and “Who likes the snow?”
