For the artist Vincent Van Gogh going from his grey and gloomy native land of Holland, to the warm and bright countryside of Southern France was an extraordinary experience. He created lots of paintings showing workers toiling in fields, sunflowers, portraits, scenes from village life, and much more. In the many letters that Vincent wrote to his brother Theo, Vincent described the things, places, and people he saw and painted.
In this beautifully produced book quotes from some of the letters are coupled with superb reproductions of some of Vincent Van Gogh’s extraordinary paintings. Many of the paintings will be familiar to readers including the famous “starry night” and the sunflowers “that are light on light.” Others will be unfamiliar and will show young readers how versatile, talented and unique Vincent Van Gogh was.
