Under the Ramadan Moon

Every year, when the thin new moon rises in the ninth lunar month, Muslims all over the world begin a month long religious celebration. It is a time when Muslims learn self-control by fasting during the daylight hours. They give to those who are in need, and they spend time with their friends and family. They pray and read from the Qur’an, reaffirming their faith.

In this simple yet very effective picture book, a singsong text is combined with warm and expressive acrylic illustrations to give young children a picture of what Ramadan is like. Children will soon learn the chorus like “under the moon, under the moon, under the Ramadan moon,” and they will enjoy joining in as the story is read to them. An author’s note at the back of the book provides children with additional information about Ramadan.
