Ernest the miniature donkey has a good life living on a farm. He has a wonderful barn to sleep in and a pond to drink out of. What he does not have is a special friend of his own and he feels lonely a great deal. Though they are good animals, the cows and chickens are not very friendly.
Then one day a newcomer arrives on the farm, a beautiful horse called Twist. Ernest is thrilled to at long last have a friend to spend his time with, a friend who is lot like himself only bigger. Twist on the other hand in not at all interested in making friends with the "scruffy" little donkey. Ernest however is far too busy being excited and happy about having a new friend to notice that Twist is not equally as pleased to meet him.
Ernest gives Twist a tour of their small domain and Twist soon finds out that there is a lot more to Ernest than at first meets the eye.
This simple and yet most rewarding picture book about friendship and acceptance would make a wonderful addition to any collection of children's books. Delicate illustrations showing calm pastoral scenes and the little donkey's world are found throughout the book.
This book won the Teacher's Choice Award.
