Ages 4 to 6
Sterling, 2006, 1-4027-3569-3
Let’s explore some of the world’s most famous pieces of modern art. Here is Andy Warhol’s “Campbell’s Soup Can (Tomato)”. You can lift the lid of the can if you like. Imagine what people must have thought when they first saw this picture in 1955?
Next there is a picture of five brightly hued dancing people. You can touch the blue man who is leaping high into the air.
Further along there is that famous painting of Marilyn Monroe which Andy Warhol created in 1964. Her hair is painted bright yellow and her skin is pink. Best of all you can touch “her lashes, see her wink.”
With lively verse to accompany nine reproductions of famous pieces of modern art, this board book with its interactive accents is sure to give young artists a thrill. Where else can you touch precious art work to your hearts content letting your fingers explore all kinds of interesting textures feasting your eyes on the works of Warhol, Indiana, Lichtenstein, Haring, and others.
At the back of the book the authors have included a section entitled “Artifacts” in which they provide their readers with further information about each of the nine art works and their creators.
