  Many of us are fascinated by things that fly. We watch birds and wish that we too could soar across the sky on feathered wings. Today we can satisfy our need to some degree by taking a trip in an airplane. However, not that long ago flying machines were a dream that some people thought would never become a reality.

  Two young men who lived in Dayton, Ohio, were not so sure. Orville and Wilbur Wright studied many books and articles about flying and flying machines. They were intrigued by the problem, and they turned their considerable engineering skill to go use trying to solve it.

  As they saw it there were three problems that they had to find solutions for. First they had to find a way to control a flying machine. Then they had to build strong wings for it. Finally they had to build an engine that could push the flying machine through the air.

  In this excellent book young readers will see how the clever and hard working Wright brothers solved these problems and others. The writing is easy to follow but it still provides beginner readers with interesting content and reading challenges.
