The winter book

Groundwood Books, 2008, 0888999003

One of the things many of us enjoy doing in winter is curling up in a cozy chair to read a book. We like to dip into seasonal tales, reading about snow falls, Christmas trees, menorah candles, and New Year celebrations. We like to warmly tuck ourselves into a story while the rain patters on the window. This book will delight young (and not so young) readers because it is packed with wintery stories, recipes, poems, delightful little wordless picture stories, songs, and nonfiction articles.

For Hanukkah readers can learn about origins of the holiday traditions that they enjoy so much, and they can recite the prayer for Lighting the Candles. For Christmas there are carols to sing, the Christmas story to tell (according to the King James Bible), and a story about “Too Much Christmas!” which was written by Dino Buzatti. If you want to know about Kwanza, Diwali, Chinese New Year, and Three Kings Day, then this is the book for you.

With charming illustrations throughout, this book will give readers of all ages some wonderful winter hours of reading time.
