The Very Lazy Ladybug
Isobel Finn
Illustrated by Jack Tickle
Board Book
Ages 2 to 4
Tiger Tales, 2005, 1-58925-758-8
The very lazy ladybug is so terribly lazy that she has never learned how to fly. This presents the little insect with a problem when she decides that she needs to find a new place to sleep. How is she to get around if she cannot fly?
What the lazy ladybug decides to do is to hop into the pouch of a passing kangaroo. The problem is that the kangaroo bounces so much that the lazy ladybug cannot possibly rest. So, the lazy ladybug hops onto the back of a passing tiger. This accommodation is too noisy and the lazy ladybug has to move on.
Thus it is that the lazy ladybug goes from animal to animal, never finding the quiet, safe, and restful kind of situation that she is looking for. It is only when she lands on an elephant that the lazy ladybug thinks she has found the right spot for a nap. Then something truly extraordinary happens and the lazy ladybug finds herself doing something that she has never done before.
Little children will enjoy the adventures of this lazy little insect as she goes on her colourful quest for a restful place to sleep. The surprise pop-up at the end of the story will certainly surprise young readers and give them plenty to talk and laugh about. Children will also greatly enjoy joining in to shout the loud words that can be found throughout the book.
