The Snow Angel

Christine Leeson

Illustrated by Jane Chapman

Picture Book

Ages 4 to 6

Tiger Tales, 2006, 1-58925-068-0

Daisy and Sam, a pair of little mice children, wake up on a snowy morning, and they are very excited. It is Christmas Day! After they have opened their gifts, the little mice go outside to play. As they are running up the hill near their home Sam and Daisy see what looks like a sparkling angel in the sky above their heads. Daisy is convinced that they are seeing a “Christmas angel.” Then they see the angel fall to the ground.

The mice go over to see what has happened to the angel and they soon realize that their beautiful visitor is not well. The angel tells them that it is tired and hungry after getting lost in a storm. In a moment the little mice rush off to get their Christmas presents (berries and nuts) which they feed to the angel. Will their gift be enough to save the angel?

In this very sweet picture book Christine Leeson beautifully captures the spirit of Christmas giving. The warmth of the sentiments in the story is beautifully complimented by Jane Chapman’s lovely snowscapes and her cunning little mice characters. Touched with glittery silver, the pictures will make readers feel snug as they read the book in their warm and cozy homes.
