Hanna’s father is a very skilled tailor and he is creating a beautiful wedding dress for the princess. Tailors all over town are making a dress for the princess and they are all hoping that the princess will pick their creation to wear at her wedding. Papa’s little daughter Hanna thinks the dress that Papa has made is beautiful. She has not been allowed to get anywhere near the dress because all the family’s hopes are pinned on the dress’s success. If the dress is not chosen Hanna and her family will end up in the poorhouse.

When it is time to sew in the last pearl Papa announces that Hanna must do it. After all she has not been allowed to touch the dress until now because of her perpetually messy hands. After a brisk and thorough washing Hanna sets about sewing on the pearl. And then she sees that there is a spot on the dress. Did she make the spot? Surely the dress is now ruined!

In this warming and clever picture book the author shows her readers how creativity, family love, and kindness can turn a bad situation around. Beautiful illustrations rendered in rich colors skillfully compliment the story.
