  Theo’s Poppa used to have a wonderful old house and a beautiful garden. Now Poppa lives in an apartment and his balcony is too windy for flowers. Theo and Poppa decide that they are going to create an imaginary garden using canvas and paints.

  So, on the first Saturday of spring, Poppa and Theo get to work. They paint a blue sky and a gray stone wall. Poppa paints in soil, and then Poppa and Theo paint in new grass and the first flowers of spring. Poppa remembers to add a little robin to the imaginary garden. After all, how can you have a spring garden without a robin.

  In this delightful picture book, Andrew Larsen not only explores the close bond between a grandfather and his grandchild, but he also helps his readers to see how powerful the imagination can be. With just a piece of canvas and some paint, Poppa and his Theo are able to share their love of gardening and maintain the connection that they have with the changing seasons.
