“A is for Alphabet Book.” A is also for ant. Industrious ants not only work very hard, but they are also strong; ants can carry things which are bigger and heavier than they are.

This is just the first of many interesting entries in this clever alphabet book. For every letter of the alphabet Jerry Pallotta describes an insect or insect relative. On the F page fireflies dance across the dark page, glowing gently. On the J page there are Japanese Beetles, little busily eating creatures which are the scourge of gardeners. And on the N page the illustrator cleverly pulls out a magnifying glass so we can see one of the No-see-ums which speckle the page. Who would have thought that anything so small could make people so “miserable.”

Using humor and lots of interesting facts which children are sure to find curious, the author of this book gives his readers plenty to think about. For example, who knew that water spiders invented the aqualung long before man did?

Throughout the book Ralph Masiello’s colorful and carefully executed illustrations perfectly compliment Jerry Pallotta’s text.

This is one of the titles in a series of alphabet books written by Jerry Pallotta.
