Miss Mary Lynn MacIntosh lives alone in a cottage of stone. Her home is pretty, clean, and “cozy”, but something is missing. Realizing that she is feeling lonely, Mary decides to go to the local pound to hopefully find a “four-legged friend.”

The pound is full of marvelous dogs and they are all obedience-trained – except for one. Unfortunately Mary decides to take home this particular dog, a blue basset with sad eyes. Dear me, what a mistake Mary’s compassion is, for Blue soon makes a mess of Mary’s home. To make matters worse he howls loudly and his calls soon encourage all the dogs at the pound to break out of their cages and to come to Mary’s house. Needless to say the place is soon in a state of chaos.

Thankfully Sam from the pound soon arrives to rescue poor Miss Mary. He is all ready to take the dogs back to the pound but soft-hearted Mary cannot bear to get rid of the dogs now. Instead she asks Sam to teach her how to train the dogs. No one could ever have guessed that this marvelous lady would find more than doggy love when she took in so many dogs.

This delicious picture book has a heart-warming story, clever rhymes, and wonderful artwork. It is a perfect for dog lovers of all ages and will delight children who like animals. Readers who want to rescue every lost and forlorn animal that they see will find a kindred spirit in Miss Mary.
