The Best Halloween Hunt Ever

John Speirs

Picture Book

Ages 5 to 7

Scholastic, 2000, 0-439-19259-5

Alexis and John are going to be spending Halloween with their grandparents, and their friends Sara, Tina and Roy are going to go with them. They know that it is going to be a wonderful day because the children are going to go trick-or-treating, and there is also going to be a big Halloween party at Grandma’s house.

On the way to Grandma’s the children stop to get pumpkins, and when they get to their destination they can see that Grandma has been busy decorating the house and garden, and she has been hiding treats all over the place.

Soon the children set off down the street to trick-or-treat. They not only collect a lot of treats from the neighbors, but they also get to try out the monster maze in the school yard. How many more wonderful things are going to happen on this special day?

Young children are going to enjoy seeing how these five children celebrate their Halloween. The easy-to-follow story is perfectly complimented by detail packed illustrations on every double page spread. For every new adventure the reader is invited to find certain things in the story including several “batty bats.” In addition to these seek-and-find games, there are also mazes to negotiate.

For readers who need a little help, the solutions to the games are found in the back of the book.
