The 10 best things about my dad

Christine Loomis

Illustrated by Jackie Urbanovic

Picture Book

Ages 4 to 6

Scholastic, 2004, 0-439-57769-1

Children have many reasons why they love their dads. This little boy is going to tell us about the ten things that he likes best about his father. Not surprisingly the little boy cherishes the fact that his dad enjoys watching and playing sports with his little boy. But there are also those quiet times when his dad holds him in his arms. These moments make the little boy feel loved and special. Dad is also there cheering on his little boy at performances and games even when the little boy is “just part of a crowd.” The little boy thinks his dad is “very good at listening,” and he is very understanding when the little boy is hurt.

This simple picture book gets straight to the heart of the matter, reminding readers that dad have many sides to them. There is the fun and jokey side, and then there is the gentle and comforting side. With simple rhymes and a meaningful message about unconditional love, this is a splendid title to share with a much loved dad.
