In this beautifully illustrated little guide newcomers to the living treasures of the beach and tidal pool will discover all sorts of interesting and valuable information. The book begins by describing what seashells are, how they are little more than a protection and a home for a soft bodied little creature that lives inside them. The author then goes on to describe some of the commonly found species of shelled creatures like the limpet, the whelk, the mussel and the oyster. She also describes other shelled creatures like crabs and barnacles, and closes with explanations of the sea stars and their relatives.
The text and illustrations are accompanied by activities and projects that the young reader may enjoy. This is one of an excellent series of "Take Along Guide" books.
