For some reason many of us are attracted to stories about ships, sailors, pirates, and other maritime subjects. We may get seasick on a flat pond, but we can resist reading about great storms, daring voyages, and famous ocean-going vessels. This book was written for armchair sailors of all ages. For every letter of the alphabet, the author gives us a word or several words that have something to do with ships, seas, and oceans. A picture of the person or thing that is being described is also provided.

On the H page, for example, we learn about the hornpipe, hardtack, and “Heave Ho!” The K page is full of pictures of the knots that sailors use, and the T page shows us the Titanic and a tugboat.

With easy to understand definitions and wonderful artwork, this is a picture book that readers will enjoy coming back to whenever the sailoring bug bites them.
