Snug as a bug

Michael Elsohn Ross

Illustrated by Sylvia Long

Picture Book

Ages 2 to 5

Chronicle Books, 2004, 0-8118-4245-2

It is bedtime and all the little insects are being read to, being snuggled, and being kissed by their loving parents. It is time for sleep and the little bugs, beetles, caterpillars, and other creatures are sleeping in all kinds of places, places which we would not think would make a good bed but which meet the needs of these little sleepers very well. A little insect cuddles under a leaf inside “an old wooly cap,” while a pair of butterflies doze on top of a mushroom. One little insect finds that the petal of a rose makes a very comfy little bed.

All decked out in their tiny pajamas and nighties, these little insects, with their sleepy eyes and soft smiles, will charm little children. A gently melodic text and Sylvia Longs gorgeous illustrations combine to create the perfect bedtime book.
