  In the fall, when the wild geese fly south and "Their song is both happy and sad" the narrator of this story begins to wish for snow and remembers one particular snowfall. He was a boy and everything around him told him that winter had come. The trees were bare and he found "Frost feathers" on his bedroom window in the mornings. Each morning he also hoped he would see snow on the ground.
  Then there was the day when something was different, there was a feeling in the air. Every person and animal seemed to know that snow was coming, a real snow storm. The farm family prepared, getting the chores done quickly. The boy and his elder brother then went into the owl woods to experience the coming of the snow storm together. The younger boy had never done this before and it was something very special, something new for him.
  Told with simplicity and an obvious love of country life and nature, this is very special and moving book. It explores both the wonders found in nature and also the adventures that a young child can have experiencing something for the first time. Merely by sitting and watching, the boy sees and hears so much in those woods as the snow begins to fall around him and his brother. We are reminded that it is often the very simple things that happen to us when we are young that make a deep impression on us. Beautiful and soft paintings resonate with the text to make this a complete and wonderful book to read.
