Snow Rylant

Snow

Cynthia Rylant

Illustrated by Lauren Stringer

Picture Book

Ages 3 to 6

Harcourt, 2008, 978-0-15-205303-1

There are lots of kinds of snow. There is the “snow that comes softly in the night” and then there is that kind of snow that falls with “fat, cheerful flakes” when we are in school or at work. This is the snow that makes it possible for us to go home early. It is snow that allows us to go back to “the rooms you love so well.”

Snow can fall so lightly that you can see the footprints of little birds on a windowsill, or it can fall so heavily that cars are buried “up to their noses.”

Of course snow is loved by children. It gives them wonderful games, “new friends,” and priceless memories to share for years to come.

In this wonderfully lyrical picture book, Cynthia Rylant captures the beauty of a snowfall, and the joy that the arrival of snow gives to children. Her powerful text is packed full of happy and comforting images that combine perfectly with Lauren Stringer’s magical illustrations. This book is a must for children who long for snowy days and nights.
