Slinky Malinki, Open the Door
Lynley Dodd
Picture Book (Series)
Ages 3 to 5
Tricycle Press, 2006, 1-58246-176-7
Slinki Malinki, the black cat who cannot seem to stay out of trouble, is at home with Stickybeak Syd the parrot, and the two of them are eager to explore the house now that they are all alone and free to do as they wish. So Slinki opens a door…
The two naughty creatures begin their trail of destruction in the bedroom, ripping, playing, and having a wonderful time with clothes and shoes. Behind the next door they discover all the things that they can get into in a bathroom. There is soap to slide on, towels to tangle up, and powder to tip over and make pawprints in. Downstairs Slinki and Stickybeak go on to wreck havoc in the study, sitting room, and kitchen. Will this rampage ever end?
With wonderful rhymes and deliciously funny illustrations of the two naughty animals getting into all sorts of trouble, this is a book which will have young readers laughing out loud and waiting eagerly to see what is behind the next door. It will also resonate very well with anyone who has had an adventurous cat who likes to explore and discover. Readers will especially appreciate the ending where one more door is opened and the reader is left wondering what on earth is going to happen next.
