When the little boy gets a rocking horse for a Christmas present, the horse, named Shadow, becomes the boy's favorite companion into the land of imaginary adventures. Together Shadow and his boy race in the Derby, fight against knights, and ride out across the Wild West.
There comes a time though when the little boy no longer plays with his rocking horse; the little boy is little no longer and he has other interests. After some time the rocking horse is carried up to the attic and soon he is forgotten, left alone for years amongst the dust and spiders. When the attic window breaks one Christmas Eve it seems as if the rocking horse's time has come to a close until the attic gets an unexpected visit.
A touching story about love, loss, and a happy reunion, this tale spans the years of many Christmases, creating a full circle with a happy ending.
