One day Pup and Hound are resting quietly in their basket when Cat goes running past. She is in such a hurry that she tips over the waste paper basket and trash spills all over the floor. Quickly Pup and Hound run upstairs to see what got Cat so upset. Goodness! Someone has broken the piggy bank and there are coins all over the floor. There is a thief on the loose!

Pup and Hound decide to take on the case and quickly put their noses to work. They pick up the scent of Cat on the bed but nothing else. Hound is sure that Cat is the thief but he has no proof so he and Pup watch Cat all day to see what she will do next but all she does is sleep and play.

Later that day the farmer discovers that her locket and other pieces of jewelry have been stolen. The farmer decides to call the police while Pup and Hound start tracking Cat. Where is she slinking off to now?

In this engaging little story Pup and Hound learn that it never pays to jumps to conclusions. Luckily they realize in good time that Cat is not the thief and are able to make up for their mistake. Simply told in rhyming language that a beginner reader can manage, this amusing little tale about mistakes made and a friendship mended is sure to be a firm favorite with young children.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
