My Little Backpack

Nathan Reed

Novelty Book

Ages 3 to 5

Simon and Schuster, 2007, 1-4169-4891-0

A little boy is packing up his backpack for school. What does he need to take with him? First he puts in his markets. He loves to draw with them when he is at school. Next the little boy gets a picture book off his shelf. It belongs to the school library and he needs to take it back. In the kitchen the little boy chooses an orange from the fruit bowl. He will take the orange in his backpack and eat it at snack time.

In this clever novelty title the author has found a way to show his little readers what they can expect to take with them to school. On each spread there is a press-out picture that children can take out of the book, and in each of these press-out pictures there is something to touch-and-feel. The orange has a rippled surface to touch, and on the cover of the library book there are the soft fuzzy bunny ears to stroke.

When reading time is over the child can fold up the book, and carry the backpack shaped title around using its sturdy little ‘handle.’
