Every day a little boy dog eagerly waits for his daddy to come home from work. He knows that there are all kinds of things that they can do together. They can drive to Kalamazoo “right there in the driveway.” They can play hide and seek or wrestle on the floor, bake cookies, work in the garden, or do repairs on the house. Sometimes Daddy brings his son something and sometimes he just brings himself.
Whatever they do the little boy dog and his daddy always have a grand time. Even when Daddy is awfully tired. Even if he is “too tired to play tag” or to “stand up straight” the little dog’s father always finds the energy to sing his little dog a bedtime lullaby.
This simple yet meaningful picture book is a perfect tribute to all those wonderful fathers who take the time to play, talk, read, and spend time with their children. Flat and childlike paintings make it seem as if the little boy dog is indeed speaking to the reader, telling him or her how wonderful his daddy is. One can almost hear the pride in the little dog’s voice as he describes all the splendid things that his father does and the love that he feels for this special person who shares his life.
