Merry Christmas, Ollie!

Oliver Dunrea

Picture Book (Series)

Ages 2 to 4

Houghton Mifflin, 2008, 978-0-618-53242-1

Gossie and her friends Gertie, BooBoo, Peddie, and Ollie are all waiting. They are sitting in the snow and waiting for “Father Christmas Goose!” The little goslings look and wait. They hang their boots and stockings in the barn, and Ollie, the littlest gosling, impatiently shouts “I want Christmas” up into the snow-filled sky. Ollie asks Gertie and Gossie if Christmas has arrived yet, and they reassure him that “Christmas is coming.” Are they right, will Father Christmas Goose be here soon?

Any small child who has found it hard to wait for Father Christmas’ arrival will be able to identify with Ollie. His impatience is almost palpable, and readers of all ages will find it hard not to smile at this delightful little goose who wears his long striped hat with such determination.

Throughout the book expressive and perfect little illustrations framed by white space capture the essence of Christmas expectation and excitement.
