Lily and Trooper’s Spring
Jung-Hee Spetter
Picture Book
Ages 3 to 5
Front Street, 1998, 1-886910-36-7
It is a lovely spring day and Lily and her dog Trooper are eager to go outside to enjoy the mild weather, the flowers, and to have a picnic. Unfortunately things don’t quite go as planned for a cow decides that it too wants to take part in the picnic. After a quick change – for they get very messy running away from the cow - Lily and Trooper go for a swing but they have yet another farm animal adventure and once again they get very dirty indeed.
Small children will laugh at Lily and Trooper’s misadventures as she and her black and white sidekick try to enjoy the joys of spring. Rich paintings with lavish use of color and texture compliment the simple text and capture the expressions of all the characters in the tale.
