Most of us see ladybugs every spring and summer. They are such cheerful looking little creatures with their bright red shells that we cannot help liking them. Perhaps you have let one of these little creatures climb into your hand. Perhaps you have watched as it opened its wing cases and took to the air.

This book tells the story of these familiar and must admired little insects. Readers get to watch how a ladybug develops. They will see how it hatches from a little white egg, a little grey hairy creature with a voracious appetite emerging. It looks nothing like its mother at this point. Only after it has grown some more and gone through the pupae stage will the little insect eventually acquire its red wing cases with their black spots.

The author of this excellent little book not only tells us about the lifecycle of these little insects but she also explains why they are so beloved by gardeners and farmers. In addition to the main text there is a “More About Ladybugs” section in the back of the book which is full of information about these valuable little animals.
