Katy Duck, Center Stage

Alyssa Satin Capucilli

Illustrated by Henry Cole

Board Book (Series)

Ages 2 to 5

Simon and Schuster, 2008, 1-4169-3338-7

Katy Duck loves to dance. She dances at every opportunity, and even as she sleeps she dreams of dancing on a stage. Katy is therefore delighted when her dancing teacher announces that the class is going to give a show and that they are going to perform on a real stage with lights, costumes, and music. For Katy it is truly “a dream come true.”

Katy and her fellow dance class members practice very hard for the upcoming performance and then, at last, the big moment arrives.

Many budding young dancers can’t wait to be on stage and then when the time comes, they are stricken with stage fright. This little board book perfectly captures what that feels like and what one can do to overcome it.

Katy Duck is, without a doubt, one of the most appealing duck characters around and little girls will find it hard to resist her. From her large pink head ribbon to her very large ballet-slippered feet, Katy is a joy to be with. Readers might like to look some of the other Katy books which include “Katy Duck, Dance Star.”
