Iris and Walter’s class are going to go to the aquarium for a field trip. Needless to say all the children are very excited. They can’t wait to see the sharks, the penguins, and the other interesting creatures that live at the aquarium.

On the day of the field trip the children are told what they should and should not do. They are told that if they get lost they should stay where they are and the teacher, Miss Cherry, will find them. All the children hope that they don’t get lost for they are sure that such an experience would be “scary.” They soon forget about these concerns however when they get on the bus and travel to the aquarium.

Seeing the fish and sharks and penguins is just as wonderful as they hoped it would be. Walter is particularly taken with the coral reef tank. All the colors and shapes and creatures fascinate him.

It is only when they get to the penguin enclosure that Iris realizes that Walter is no longer in the group. Walter is lost!

In this excellent Iris and Walter adventure Iris faces a new challenge which she deals with very well. Children who are going to go on a field trip in the near future will find the story comforting, and they will know what to expect on the big day because they have shared this experience with Iris and Walter beforehand.

With a text that is perfectly suited to the new reader and lots of colorful illustrations, this is a title that will certainly show children that reading can be rewarding and fun.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
