If I were a Ballerina

Pat Hegarty

Illustrated by Liz and Kate Pop

Novelty Board Book

Ages 2 to 4

Tiger Tales, 2007, 1-58925-834-7

Little girls who want to become a ballerina will greatly enjoy looking through this book. They will learn that ballerinas wear tutus and satin shoes. They will see that ballerinas on stage wear jewels in their hair, and that they store the tools of their trade in a special ballet bag.

This charming little board book not only shows little children what it is like to be a ballerina but it also lets them explore, with their fingers, what some of the ballet accoutrements feel like. Children can feel that the tulle of a tutu is “scratchy,” that the satin on the ballet shoes is “silky,” and that a ballet bag feels “slippery.”

With multimedia artwork rendered in soft pastel colors, and touch-and-feel items on every double page spread, this is a perfect book for little would-be ballerinas.
