  Without a doubt Cicely Mary Barker is one of the world’s foremost experts on fairies and now she has put together a very special book to help those of us who are less experienced than she is to be able to get glimpses of these marvelous little creatures.

A ring of mushrooms is a sure indication that fairies cannot be far away. Look for knotholes in a tree stump which fairies might use as a doorway to their home.

  Gardens are the perfect place for fairies who love beautiful things. If you see petals hanging on a spider’s web on a summer’s day, then you know that you have fairies in your garden who have been doing their washing that day.

  Hedgerows are marvelous places for fairies as there are so many nooks and crannies to hide in. As there are often lots of butterflies in hedgerows, fairies find it easy to flutter about in amongst the butterflies and are thus less visible to humans.

  In marshy places you might be lucky enough to see small footprints in the mud which will tell you that fairies are living close by. Look for little boats made out of large leaves and if you are very lucky you might even see the fairy King and Queen who live in the marshlands.
