Like so many little boys Gus loves trains and when he is at Grandpa's house he loves to wave as the train goes by. It is always a wonderful and exciting thing to do and something that is special for visits with Grandpa. On this day though, the experience is spoiled when Grandpa's dog Skipper gets out of the gate. Gus is too busy trying to make sure that Skipper is safe to be able to enjoy watching the train. And yet, before the train is quite gone, Gus is given a very special gift.
Skipper gets into trouble again when Gus and Grandpa find and set up Gus's father's old train set. Gus and Grandpa have quite a time finding it and then have a much better time setting it up and playing with it. Only then do they realise that Skipper is missing. Could the rascally dog have got out of the yard?
This trio of Gus and grandpa stories will give young readers great pleasure. In three chapters they can share in Gus and Grandpa's adventures which culminate in the best adventure of all, going on a real steam train.
This is the third book in the Gus and Grandpa series
