Franklin the Fly

It is not easy being a fly and living in a big city. Just ask Franklin. He can tell you all about what it is like to have to dodge being swatted at, being stepped on, and being caught on fly paper. Franklin believes it is best to just stay away from people because they are dangerous creatures. Of course there are times when Franklin can’t help himself and he just has to check out the “good things” that people tend to leave lying on their tables. Things like cookie crumbs for example.

Sometimes Franklin likes to go out into the country for a breath of fresh air. He loves to make patterns in the air, something which the other flies think is very strange. But Franklin tries not to let their unkind words hurt him. He can’t help feeling lonely every so often though.

Then, one day, Franklin’s pattern flying turns out to be just what is needed to avert a disaster and he ends up with the one thing that he wants the most in life.

Readers of all ages will find it hard to resist this gentle little insect who has a creative spirit and a lonely little heart. In fact readers may find themselves thinking twice about swatting a fly the next time one of Franklin’s cousins comes buzzing near by. Unique minimalist illustrations, and a simple yet endearing text written from Franklin’s point of view makes this picture book a joy to read.
