Fourth of July Mice
Illustrated by Doug Cushman
Ages 2 to 4
Clarion, 2004, 0-618-31366-4.
The Fourth of July is often a day full of doing some of the most enjoyable summer activities. In this simple little book we join a family of mice who are having a wonderful day swimming, eating, having their own little parade complete with drums and flags, playing ball, having races, and watching fireworks. With minimal text Bethany Roberts describes a perfect day in words that little people will appreciate, with lots of sounds and rhythms. Doug Cushman's charming ink and color illustrations leave us in no doubt that the mice are having a terrific time. "Fourth of July Mice" would be an excellent book to use to help a small child prepare for the special national American holiday.
