Let's tell the story of flight, from the very early ideas of Leonardo da Vinci, to the present day high-speed craft which tear across our skies. It is hard to believe how much has changed in the aviation world since that fateful day in 1903 when Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first manned powered flight. Before that man had tried again and again to leave the ground but successes were limited to those attempts that were made when flight was achieved using hot air balloons.
Then the Wright brothers changed everything and our horizons widened to include a whole new world above the ground.
In the beautifully presented book complete with illustrations photographs and pictures of memorabilia of the period, the author provides us with a journey back in time to look at how aviation developed over the years. All the landmarks are discussed; we see when the first passenger plane went into service, how planes are built and how they fly, who the heroes of the field were, and much more.

Action Alert

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
