Eloise Visits the Zoo

Lisa McClatchy

Illustrated by Tammie Lyon

Fiction (Series)

Ages 4 to 6

Simon and Schuster, 2009, 978-1-4169-8642-3

Eloise is six years old and she lives in the city with Nanny. Eloise loves animals and she has two pets of her own; Weenie the pug and Skipperdee the turtle.

In the summertime Eloise loves to go to the zoo. Nanny and Eloise put on their “safari best” and soon they are nose to nose with African animals of all kinds. They say hello to the lions, and the giraffe tries to lick Eloise’s hand, which delights Eloise.

Next Eloise and Nanny go to see the animals from Australia. Eloise has a wonderful time taking pictures of the kangaroos and sketching the koalas.

Eloise is the kind of book character that children naturally bond with. She is often naughty but, at the same time, she is quite loveable. Written specifically for little children who are just starting to read, this story is both amusing and entertaining.
