Eloise’s Summer Vacation
Lisa McClatchy
Illustrated by Tammie Lyon
Fiction (Series)
Ages 4 to 6
Simon and Schuster, 2007, 0-689-87454-5
Nanny and Eloise (and Weenie) are going on a road trip vacation across America. They are taking a Butler with them who is also going to be their driver and they are going to see all kinds of wonderful things. Nanny has her own T.V to watch and once in a while Weenie and Eloise manage to sit still.
The first big place of interest that the travelers visit is Niagara Falls. Weenie and Eloise love the spray and they both get very wet indeed. Next they visit Mount Rushmore. Here Eloise paints Nanny and the Butler. Eloise thinks that they both look like President Lincoln.
And on the travelers go across the country, visiting the Grand Canyon and San Francisco, having a wonderful time and seeing all kinds of marvelous places.
In this delightful early reader book, children who are ready for longer sentences and more challenging words will have a splendid time joining Eloise in her adventures. Eloise is, as always, a joy to be with and, as always, one can never really be sure what is going to happen when one is with her.

Action Alert

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) needs your help. The President's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget released in February eliminates the Inexpensive Book Distribution Program, which is the RIF Book Distribution Program. Unless Congress reinstates funding for this program, RIF will be unable to distribute 16 million books annually to the nation's youngest and most at-risk children. RIF serves 4.6 million children. Please click on the link below to visit the RIF Action Alert page so you can make your voice heard and support their efforts.
